9 Things You Must Do In San Francisco

San Francisco is an incredible city with so much to do and see. It can be quite overwhelming when trying to decide what to do and see. I've visited San Francisco several times and each time I find something new and exciting. There are always incredible shows, foods, and shops to explore. Do you want to get the most out of your San Francisco trip? Here are 9 things you must do! 

Walk Across the Golden Gate Bridge
The Golden Gate Bridge is practically synonymous with San Francisco. Yea sure you could drive across the bridge, but why waste the gas, further pollute the Earth, and rob the driver of the spectacular views when you could walk!?! There are a few free car parks on both sides of the Golden Gate Bridge. Many, like Fort Point or Marin Headlands, offer incredible views before you start your walk. 

The Golden Gate Bridge is 2.7kms and will take you about 35 minutes one way to walk. Take as long as you wish so that you can fully appreciate the beauty of the city and the magnificence of the Golden Gate Bridge. 

Drive (or Roll Down) the Most Crooked Street
Lombard Street is famous for being one of the most crooked streets in the world. With it being situated on a steep hill, with lots of curves, its fun for anyone to drive down (unless you get seasick). Not a fan of driving, you can walk down as well. This way you can get a better view of the Haunted Montandon House, the Real World House, and the house from Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo. 

While Lombard is a crooked street, it isn't the most crooked in SF. That title is held by Vermont Street. Here, you'll miss the flocks of tourists and get some great views of the city. Come out on Easter Sunday to participate in the Bring Your Own Big Wheel's Race. Don't forget rolling down either street is perfectly acceptable. 

Drinks at the Top of the Mark
Tired from exploring all day but still want to take in the wonder views of SF, head up to the Top of the Mark for some excellent cocktails. Here you'll be blessed with 360-degree views of the city along with some awesome live music and dancing. Unless you're popping in early, it's highly suggested to make reservations. Trust me, it's well worth it!

See the Sea Lions at Pier 39
While I'm not a massive fan of Pier 39, I am an enormous fan of animals. And how could one go to SF and not see the giant, awesome sea lions?! After the earthquake in 1989, these sea lions made the pier their permanent home. While sea lions are generally friendly, they may bite humans if they feel threatened so remember, if one gets close, don't try to take a selfie with it. 

Explore Haight-Ashbury 
One of the best parts about SF is how multicultural and unique the entire city is. Haight-Ashbury definitely fits within the SF aesthetic. This hippie neighbourhood is home to some beautiful, colourful Victorian style homes, vintage clothing stores, dive bars, amazing bookstores, and a variety of awesome restaurants. Ride the Magic Bus or take a free walking tour to ensure you don't miss anything from this unique part of San Francisco. 

Practice Some Mindfulness at Grace Cathedral
You don't need to be religious to appreciate the stunningly beautiful architecture at Grace Cathedral. Grace Cathedral not only offers some stunning spots for photographs but there is also yoga and two labyrinths. Here you can quiet your mind and practice some mindfulness. It's a great place to escape the business of the city. 

Slide Down the Giant Slides
Tucked away on Steward Street is the ultimate playground to let your inner child roam free. Located at Steward Mini Park, you'll find two long, concrete slides that are definitely not for the faint of heart! Grab your bestie and some cardboard and race your way to the end of the slide.

There is a second pair of slides located in Bernal Heights. This slide is made of metal and has a sweet little dip to help get your speed up. If you're a little afraid of the concrete slides, try your luck here first. 

Find One of the Hidden Swings
There are several giant swings sprinkled throughout San Francisco. But be warned, they are not always up at the locations you may find online. There is a beautiful swing by the Golden Gate Bridge, but unfortunately, it often gets taken down. So make it your mission to check out all the spots where a swing might be. You'll be sure to get some killer shots all around San Fran. 

Escape Alcatraz
Just like the Golden Gate Bridge, no trip to SF would be complete without a visit to Alcatraz. Alcatraz is the infamous federal prison that housed some of the most notorious criminals until its closure in 1963. Tickets sell out fast, so you definitely need to book your tour in advance. If you're brave enough, there is even a nighttime ghost tour of Alcatraz!
