7 Discount Travel Sites to Help You Save Money

Sunday 3 March 2019

It's a highly discussed topic, "how do I know that I'm getting the best deal possible on my holiday?". There are many tips and tricks to save money on your holiday, but it can be exhausting sifting through multiple sites, all of which claiming to have the best deals.

For me, getting the best bang for my buck is imperative. I like saving as much money as possible so that I can afford to experience more on my holidays. So here are my top discount travel sites to help you get the most incredible holiday experience.

Google Flights
Google Flights is the perfect website to start your travel search. The website gives you an average price range for the entire year. This way you know if you're getting a decent flight deal or not. There have been times where Google Flights has had the best flight deals, but I predominantly use it to make sure I'm not getting screwed.

Hopper
Hopper is an incredible app you can download to your phone that will alert you to price decrease and increases. It will also tell you when the best time to purchase your ticket. The app has been incredibly helpful in reminding me to book flights for special occasions. I'm notorious for forgetting to book until the last minute and then end up paying a higher price.

Hotels Etc
Hotels Etc. is a membership website that gives you some significant discounts on hotels, flights, and other travel awesomeness. If you are planning to travel around North America, I would highly suggest looking into a membership. There are so many hotels, vacation rentals, and holiday activities available in this area. It doesn't have the best database for areas outside of North America, but you can still find some great deals.

I ended up saving over $500 on my coming up trip to Mexico. Other websites didn't even come close to matching the price I found on Hotels Etc. Can't even remotely complain about that.

Skyscanner
Skyscanner is my go-to site for cheap as flights. Skyscanner has consistently had some killer flight deals. I've found that some routes are typically less expensive here than on other sites. My flight from Melbourne to the States is always a couple of hundred dollars cheaper on Skyscanner than on other travel sites.

Secret Flying
If you have flexible travel plans, if you work remotely, or if your work is chill about giving holidays, Secret Flying will become your best friend. Secret Flying often posts error fares, which you get you ridiculous savings on flight deals. Be forewarned, airlines do not always honour this error, but most people I know who have purchased error fares have been able to travel at that price.

Flyertalk
Flyertalk is a slightly different deal saving website. Here, expert travellers share travel money saving tips and tricks. You'll learn all about the best hotels for your money, how to best use your frequent flyer miles, and know when error fares occur. Like, did you know not all airport lounges require a first or business class ticket or for you to be an elite member? Reading through the Airport Lounge forum will help you figure out how to make the best of your long layover!

The Flight Deal
The Flight Deal is another awesome site that helps you learn the best tips and tricks for saving money throughout your travels. When airlines have good deals, you'll find links to book your next holiday. I always keep an eye out here as there are frequent deals from the US to other international destinations. When I find a great deal from the States to Australia, you can bet I'm sharing it with my family and friends.

If you're anything like me, you love to travel but want to ensure you're getting the best deals possible. Utilising these travel sites will help ensure you're getting the best bang for your buck. If you've used any of these sites before, which was your favourite? Know of a site that isn't listed, share it in the comments below!

And until next time...
